NAAAHR South Florida Chapter

On Friday, November 12, 2010, 5:30pm – 8:30pm, the South Florida Chapter of National Association of African Americans in Human Resources (NAAAHR) hosted its annual Member Mixer.  National NAAAHR President, Carl Jefferson was in attendance along with National NAAAHR Association Manager, Ivan Crosling.

This was an opportunity for South Florida human resources professionals and business leaders to connect and hear about the goals and aspirations of NAAAHR.  Founded in December 2008, the South Florida Chapter offers quarterly programs with an opportunity to socialize and earn HRCI credits from professional development programs.

Mr. Jefferson motivated us not to just find a mentor, but find individuals who will “sponsor” us for personal and professional growth.  A sponsor will advocate for you even when you’re not in the room.

In 2011 NAAAHR-South Florida Chapter will be implementing its “NAAAHR: Career Essentials” initiative focused on providing a “full-support package” to two individuals seeking to enter the HR profession or gain a promotion.  To accomplish this goal, participants will be provided assistance with acquiring career attire, professional branding, coaching, mentoring and sponsoring.

NAAAHR South Florida 2010 Member Mixer site host for the evening was Jerome Hutchinson, CEO and founder of ICABA World, a social networking site for professionals who mean business.  Jerome has been a long time supporter of the chapter and we thank him for not only by being our host, but arranging the beautiful venue at the Crexent Business Centre.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a generous gift from United Parcel Service, Inc.  Chapter President-Elect Shirley Toliver, an HR Representative with UPS, presented the gift on behalf of her company and the UPS Foundation.

Kay Blake, NAAAHR Chapter President, received overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding the event and great ideas for the future. Board Members Shirley Toliver, Sam Hines, Janelle Blake, and Dr. Shantay Bolton were instrumental in the evening’s success. We are also very thankful to all of our sponsors: UPS, Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, ICABA, AAA Auto South, MetLife, Crexent Business Centre and Jobing.
